Objective:

Principal Responsibilities
Configuring new PC’s, creation and utilisation of Ghost images.
Maintenance and support of the network PC’s.
Performing daily network operation tasks.
Installation and upgrade of PC hardware and software.
Diagnosing and assisting with user problems concerning hardware and software.
Daily maintenance and support of corporate applications and office tools.
Help-desk support for IT applications.
Understand and implement IT standards and procedures.
Coordination and liaison with all other IT staff / areas.
Research, install, configure and maintain new and existing software on PC’s.
Maintenance and configuration of network printers.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Candidates must have acquired Degree level qualification in Computer Science or equivalent. The following are also important requirements:
- Minimum two years’ relevant experience.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
- Team working & communication skills.
- Problem solving skills.
- Ability to configure, upgrade, install, relocate and troubleshoot PC hardware and software.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues remotely.
Working knowledge of network administration, Active Directory, Microsoft Windows XP/7, Microsoft Office & Outlook 2007/2010, Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010, and Desktop PC applications.
- Familiarity with the following would be a distinct advantage: IP Telephony, VMware, TCP/IP, Laptops, and ITIL v3 Foundation Certification.

Job Description:
We are seeking a flexible Desktop Support Engineer to work in a rapidly growing and diverse environment, with a wide range of different systems and software. The person must be able to display adaptability and flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, be a self-motivator and have the ability to work independently and without supervision; customer oriented, enthusiastic, courteous, assertive and motivated to take charge of both customer engagement and problem resolution.
This role is a member of the Office Systems Support team. This team is the provider of all IT Software and hardware support to all head and branch office staff. This includes support and maintenance of numerous corporate web sites, MS Exchange, SharePoint and other MS office systems and applications.
Responsibilities include:
•Installation, upgrade, maintenance, troubleshooting and end user support of Windows laptops and desktops
•Provide end user support for IT systems and Applications
•Logging, prioritising and solving assigned helpdesk issues
•Feeding back/supporting customers through problem resolution in a prompt, professional and polite manner
•Creating and managing user accounts in Active Directory
•Use of desktop imaging and software deployment
•Application of Windows updates/service packs/patches
•Application of Anti-virus updates
•Hardware & Software Support, including PC, Laptop, and Desk side Telecoms
•End User support to all staff on Exchange/Office and other applications;
•Updating of the knowledge bases such that key activities are well documented
•Sharing information and providing guidance/mentorship to other team-members

Qualifications/Requirements
•3-5 years experience with comprehensive knowledge of Windows desktop and laptop computer hardware, software and operating systems and desktop applications, specifically Windows XP, Win7, Windows 2003/2008 server and remote access technologies.
•Experience of the following is essential:
oPC operating systems, Microsoft Office products
oLANS, WANS, DNS, WINS, DHCP, TCP/IP
oGeneral hardware maintenance (PCs, printers, PC peripheral devices video/network cards, RAM, Upgrades etc.)
oMS Exchange - User account setup, access permissions etc.
oActive Directory, SharePoint and Microsoft Office Communicator
oExperience creating and deploying desktop images
•Strong troubleshooting skills for hardware and software problems
•The ability to physically lift and move standard desktop/monitors and other hardware as appropriate
•Excellent Customer service and interpersonal skills: ability to effectively communicate with end users
•Ability to adapt to changing priorities and to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
•Knowledge of and experience with Avaya telephony systems and Linux would also be beneficial
•Virtualisation skills and experience an advantage
•Third level qualification in a computer related discipline or equivalent (MCSE / MCSA ) and have previous experience in a similar role

Description: Excellent financial company with their European HQ in Dublin is looking to hire a Desktop Support Engineer. The salary is approx 35-45k per annum plus a full benefits package. You must hold a degree and have a minimum 4-5 years full Desktop Support experience.
Job Summary
The Desktop Support Engineer will join our existing Helpdesk team who are responsible for supporting the entire desktop environment for all groups within the Dublin office.
This is a very challenging and varied environment that covers (among other areas) all windows desktop issues, PC builds, software installs, peripherals (keyboards, monitors, etc), printers, telecoms (such as turrets, phones, clocks, etc), set up for new starters, trader desk moves, basic patching, file permissions and market data permissions, all of which are managing through the helpdesk support queue.
This is a very demanding and highly technical role which involves working in a highly active and demanding trading environment to provide first level operational support for both trading and technology teams. There is a requirement that the Helpdesk team works closely with the Trading Application Support team and facilitates overlap where required to ensure consolidated support across our desktop systems and trading software. The successful candidate will display a strong technical ability in making critical support decisions while working under pressure.
Core Responsibilities
• Desktop 1st and 2nd level support – working closely with the software development teams, system architects and traders to provide essential primary support for all desktop software and hardware systems – includes but not specific to Windows desktop issues, Access & Excel, user accounts, s/w installs, file permissions, basic patching
• Desktop builds and peripherals – working within the production support team to complete Windows builds - using tools such as SCCM and Ghost, setting up new workstations, monitors, managing new starters, printers
• Basic file processing via our batch scheduler
• Telecoms 1st and 2nd level support – providing support for trader desk turrets, desk phones, video conferencing, voicemail and voice recordings
• Trader desk relocations
• Continuous evaluation and improvement of support procedures, development and implementation of required/agreed tools and associated runtime environments
• Interact with various internal IT support functions to troubleshoot and resolve problems as they happen
• Liaising with technology teams in Bala and/tor external vendors as required
• Inventory of hardware onsite
Qualifications
• B.S. in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
Experience
• Minimum of 5 years providing first level Desktop Support in a demanding technology environment.
• Financial trade floor experience is beneficial
Knowledge & Skills
• Excellent working knowledge of Windows desktop OS (XP professional/Win 7)
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office (2003/2010), in particular Excel and Access
• Strong knowledge of Active Directory
• Strong working knowledge of peripherals, printers, graphics cards, network cards
• Strong knowledge of automated PC builds (e.g. Ghost, SCCM)
• Experience with vendor systems
• Knowledge of telecoms such as phone systems, video conferencing and turrets would be an advantage
• Reuters & Bloomberg Professional would be an advantage
• Flexibility – all members of the Helpdesk team participate in early morning shift rotations
• Desire to learn and improve skills and knowledge
Hours of work
The Helpdesk Team currently operate two shifts 7.00 – 4.00 and 9 – 6 but this may be subject to change as the business requirements dictate
