Description: Technical Writer required for client based in South Dublin

Permanent Role - salary circa 40-45k

Job Description:
The technical writer’s purpose is to produce high quality product documentation for the end user. You need to see the world from the end user’s viewpoint and provide clear instructions, with simple to follow steps and examples that explain how to use each of the features of our products. You will own the entire documentation production process; from creating doc templates and styles guides, through writing the content, having it reviewed, and administering the release cycle, versioning and maintenance.
You will enhance product documentation, ensuring quality, usability, completeness, and timely delivery. You will use and explore the products to understand how they work, liaise with our savvy developers and product owners on new features to be documented, identify areas for improvement in the existing documentation, and lend your expertise in proofreading and editing various other kinds of written material.

Skill Set:
Candidates should have the following background:
• 3-4 years experience writing software product documentation.
• Formal education in a writing programme is ideal but not necessary. Good writing experience may substitute for formal training.
• You have at least a bachelor’s degree in English, communications, new media or information technology.
• You’ll need to use Framemaker, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat (or similar) and Adobe Photoshop.
• An understanding of the life insurance industry is helpful but not necessary. More important is your ability to study and understand new software and concepts quickly—and then explain them to beginners in clear English that is pleasant and easy to read.
• Ability to structure your own time, prioritise and manage workload efficiently (experience in an Agile/JIRA managed environment is a bonus)
• Ability to explain sophisticated product functionality in clear, simple language.
• Experience with all aspects of the software development life cycle.

Technical Writer-key responsibilities:
• Maintain, update and enhance the existing documentation, and create new documentation, for company products. This includes User Guides, Installation Guides, Technical Environment Guidelines, Release Notes and customer-specific supplements, among others.
• Write with clarity, simplicity and flair.
• Create diagrams, take screen shots and perform basic image editing.
• Create and use standard templates and style guide.
• Collaborate with members of various departments (such as solution architects, business analysts and software engineers) to update existing documentation and to produce new documents.
• Edit and format documents by other staff members to ensure that the material follows the house style.
• Follow stringent version-control procedures, keeping an accurate record of changes made to documents.
• Assist in creating your schedule; meet the deadlines you’ve set.
• Take a flexible approach to your work and be ready to fit in unexpected assignments when necessary.
