Oracle Database Developer Background On Role:
The role will focus on the development of an advanced data movement and delivery system supporting high volume financial transactions on a daily basis across the full range of Investor Services – including Custody, Middle-Office, Fund Administration, Security Lending and Transfer Agency. The system will ultimately provide high quality financial investments and performance data to internal and external system users, over complete data quality and lineage system

Oracle Database Developer Requirements:
• Primary degree in Computer Science/Engineering.
• Finance related postgraduate qualification (desirable).
• Oracle Certification (desirable). This role will require a sound knowledge of the Investor Services business domain coupled with a strong understanding of reporting, business intelligence and data management technologies that support this space.
• 5+ years in software development in the financial/insurance or related industry.
• Excellent understanding of SQL writing. ETL technologies such as Ab Initio experience an advantage
• Excellent SQL query development and optimization skills (SQL, PL/SQL)
• Excellent query tuning skills. Use of performance tools such as SQL trace, EXPLAIN plans, Oracle ADDM, AWR, ASH, etc
• Excellent data analysis, profiling and integration skills
• Experience with data formatting and scripting technologies (Unix/Perl)
• Understanding of metadata management, data lineage and data quality

Description: My Dublin based client currently requires a Oracle DBA to join their team to be responsible for providing specialist advice and/or support to end users on IT applications and systems.

Overview
The successful applicant will contribute to the overall success of the organisation by working effectively to design, develop, test and implement quality database solutions to support the IT systems. The IT equipment associated with is located in Dublin and Belfast and both sites must be maintained in an operational state on a highly available basis. The role is Dublin based but occasional travel to Belfast is required .

Key Responsibilities
• Primarily responsible for providing specialist advice and/or support to end users on IT applications and systems within required timelines; in particular in relation to Oracle, Microsoft SQL and MySQL
• First point of contact for identifying, prioritising and resolving database issues, for both production and non production environments, including dealing with database refreshes and daily tasks, backups and restores
• Supporting and improving the database environments, to ensure 24x7 availability, including back-up and disaster recovery and coordinating and reviewing database security for all environments
• Analyse, plan and implement upgrade projects as agreed
• Apply specialist knowledge of IS applications and systems to contribute to policy, process and planning, and produce system / policy documentation as required
• Manage small/medium projects/work activities or sections of larger projects and interact with stakeholders to ensure business requirements are met; for example working with the functional team and business users to support production and non-production databases.
• Capable of making decisions on assigned projects within the objectives and strategy guidelines of the IS department and an ability to work outside established procedures but within a policy framework
• Liaise with external agencies and suppliers as required
• Provide technical guidance to more junior team members as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
• Relevant degree with 4-5 years experience (including 1-2 years specialist experience in an Oracle DBA support role)
• Strong proficiency in Oracle, with strong Oracle 10g & 11g background
• Strong knowledge of Oracle running on Linux
• Working knowledge of operating within a Windows 2008 environment, Replication and Data Guard, RMAN backup and recovery, SQL and PL/SQL coding
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills
• Strong troubleshooting, problem solving and work planning abilities

• Ability to lead and take responsibility for small/medium projects
• Demonstrated flexibility and motivational skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and meet deadlines.

Desirable
• Oracle RAC experience
• Working knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager and system monitoring

Qualification and Experience Required

• A third level degree in Computer Science, or equivalent working experience
• Minimum of four year’s experience in an application or systems support role.
• Experience of front line application support and implementing fixes to existing systems
• Experience of deploying software upgrades into product environments
• Experience of batch monitoring and back up administration
• Experience supporting applications in C#, PL SQL or SQL, Java
• Experience of supporting Databases, ideally Oracle but not essential.
• Has worked in financial services, utilities or equivalent.


Duties and Responsibilities

The person will be keen to develop within the role, and open to learning new disciplines and new skill sets.
• Day to day support and monitoring of our business systems
• Front line support to trouble shoot, diagnose and fix software issues on our business systems.
• Incident management, resolution and escalation of issues on all environments both internally and with our IT partners.
• Maintaining and updating the monitoring systems, running scripts and batch processes
• Managing the deployment process to ensure successful deployment of new systems, software and upgrades.
• Maintaining and managing test, development and production environments.
• Maintaining the documentation set on all applications and systems
Diagnosing system and application software problems.
• Testing of offsite backup solution
• Training on upgrades to our systems and applications to teams within the business
• Maintaining and updating password and access security levels for users
• Working closely with the IT Manager to determine how applications can be developed and supported to meet the business needs





Interpersonal Skills

• Great problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly, take on additional work and systems that might be outside your comfort zone
• Enjoy working in environments where one is encouraged to use own initiative

• Must have excellent communication skills and must be able to present diagnostic, troubleshooting steps and conclusions to a non-technical audience

Technical Skills
• Experience supporting applications in PL SQL or SQL, C#, Java.
• Experience of supporting Databases, ideally Oracle but not essential.
• Good knowledge of Relational Databases
• Strong scripting skills
• Database development query skills or aptitude
• Working knowledge of Windows Server environments
• Understanding of internet related technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SSL;
• Basic network and desktop troubleshooting
• Good working knowledge of Excel and setting up ODBC connections
