Description: Cobol Mainframe developer ideally with Life Assurance or Financial Services experience required for top Financial Services Company in Dublin City Centre.

The Job:
The role requires the jobholder to estimate, design, develop, test and implement application to Group and Company standards.

Reporting to an IT team leader, the successful candidate will:

• Develop, in adherence with agreed standards, functionality to support the operations of one or more clients.
• Conduct initial unit testing on all development prior to handover to the QA team for more rigorous system testing. Support the QA effort during and after handover.
• Produce requirements/technical specifications for more complex development tasks.
• Contribute to the monthly development deliverables process by ensuring all assigned work is recorded in the JIRA system with appropriate due dates and by providing progress updates on a basis agreed with the development team lead.
• Provide training and support to other team members (within your team and for other teams).
• Contribute to the production support effort and ensure all errors/issues are included in the IT error log.
• Liaise with stakeholders such as Group IT, Customer Operations, Systems admin, Client company’s operational/IT staff, Actuarial, Web and documentation developers and QA.

The Person:
The candidate will have a high level of experience and ability in mainframe development, ideally in the financial services industry. We require quality-driven individuals with the following:
• COBOL or another 3rd generation programming language (essential)
• MS Office (essential)
• 3rd Level diploma/degree : Information Technology or with significant IT component
• IBM OS/390 (MVS) platform experience with Endevor/TSO
• Microfocus Cobol, SQL
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• An ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• An organised and systematic approach
• Ability to adhere to all development and controls

Develop those solutions

The Person
The ideal candidate will have a third level IT qualification and a detailed knowledge of Banking or Financial Services Systems.
They will have proven programming experience, ideally Cobol Mainframe /other 3Gl experience would be considered.
They will also possess:
An ability to learn and understand complex business processes
A capability to work on their own initiative in a demanding environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
A desire to develop their IT competency through training and education
Strong team work and cross functional collaboration
Excellent planning and organisational skills

• Ensure projects are delivered as per agreed schedules, quality and cost.
• Ensure that software developments are to required standards and procedures and coding development best practices
• Develop and maintain an environment of innovation and continuous improvement, focusing on quality, cost reduction and process development.
• Support the Team Manager in implementing changes in processes and systems to deliver productivity and service improvements

• Planning, organising and monitoring of the workload of staff
• Working to maintain and improve our service quality and standards
• Leading and motivating staff
• Dealing professionally with issues when they arise
• Performance Management
• Identifying training needs within the unit

Industry Knowledge and Experience:
• Mainframe software development – significant technical experience and considered at expert level (COBOL, JCL, VSAM, Fileaid, Xpeditor, Endevor etc)

The Job
The role of the Mainframe Analyst Programmer is an integral one in the delivery of quality, fit for purpose solutions developed on the Mainframe based platform, delivered within agreed deadlines, and to the required quality standards, in order to meet the business requirements of customers.

The successful candidate will:
• Work at the direction of the IT Team Lead in the execution of assigned business application development projects
• Have an ability to lead Development phases of small to large projects, often complex in nature.
• Support Analysis of business requirements from a technical point of view and provide input into the technical direction of the project that best support the business requirements and overall IT architecture and strategy
• Interpret Functional Specifications to deliver Technical Specifications in line with design standards that accurately detail the technical solutions to be implemented and supported on Bank IT systems
• Complete development assignments such that programs support the approved project requirements and follow the agreed upon Technical Design

The Person
The ideal candidate will have:
• IBM Mainframe exposure and experience - COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, Fileaid and Xpeditor
• IT qualification preferably to degree standard or similar
• Minimum 4-5 years development experience.
• Detailed knowledge of Life Assurance or Financial Services Systems.

In addition candidates should have:
• Very Strong analytical, design and development skills with a clear and concise understanding of all aspects of a Development lifecycle
• Excellent communication skills - effective verbal and written communication skills of both technical and business nature
• Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Excellent self starter with the capability to show drive and resilience to take initiative in a demanding environment
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Ability to focus on the customer and deliver to deadlines
• Excellent technical acumen and problem solving skills
• An ability to learn and understand complex business and IT systems and processes
• Excellent PC skills with a strong knowledge of MS Office products
