Role Description
Technically you will be involved in web application projects where Java is the underlying code. Candidates should be comfortable working in a team environment and should have agile development experience.
Core Requirements:
Java
Exposure to Web services
Third level qualification or equivalent relevant experience in a computer related field
Excellent Object Oriented Programming skills
Strong web programming and web content development skills - Java, ASP, XML, XSLT, CSS & JavaScript
Strong database design and development experience - Oracle
Web site administration in IIS
The key responsibilities of this role are a follows:
Design, develop and maintain databases for large-scale web applications
Develop web-based applications using Java
Link web-based learning modules to backend databases and learning management systems
Update existing web-based products for new requirements and technologies
Assist in remotely administering web application and database servers
Testing and debugging your own work
Keeping management apprised of progress and any challenges on tasks assigned
Experience
Minimum 3 years experience in a similar development environment
Experience in managing large-scale global web and database servers

This is a perm role with a very attractive benefits package and the salary scale is between 45-50k per annum plus a benefits package worth approx 10k per annum. The role will involve testing IT Business and core IT systems in the financial services sector. The IT core technologies include Java, Web Portals, DB2/ Oracle Databases and some mainframe applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and coordinate the execution of testing defects to successful sign off, ensuring the delivered solution is fit for purpose.
Ensure that the project test strategy is created and implemented including testing approach, environment spec, estimates, criteria and scripts, risk assessments and recommendation on methodologies and tools.
Testing related assignments carried out on a timely basis, alone or as part of a team, to ensure that the tool/s used is/are fit for purpose and the solution delivered creates business benefits in terms of cost or quality.
IS and business areas issues understood to ensure viable testing options and solutions are proposed to facilitate the quick and efficient resolution of the testing process.
Up to date knowledge of current industry testing practices and initiatives maintained to ensure that the business areas benefit from using the newest and most effective testing tools and practices.
Test process and tools continuously adapted, and colleagues consulted as necessary, to ensure the most efficient and cost effective tools and processes are employed and meet the specific project requirements.
Investigations to assess the practicality of various testing process alternatives carried out to ensure that the most cost effective and efficient testing tool is applied.
Testing strategy discussed, and agreed with clients/users and senior staff as required to ensure a common understanding of the most appropriate testing methods and tools to be employed for development projects.
Advice, assistance and leadership in any area associated with the planning, procurement, provision, delivery, management, maintenance or effective use of information systems and their environments provided to ensure a thorough understanding of the implications of the testing phase.
Testing tools and techniques planned, designed, managed, executed and reported in line with agreed standards, to ensure that new and amended systems, together with any interfaces, perform as specified.
Monthly tool usage reports produced in order to evaluate and review the continued use of tools or recommend changes to ensure that the efficiency of tools and cost benefit analysis is undertaken.
Qualifications / Experience:
Essential
Experience in testing or holding a testing qualification.
Has a good understanding of the role of software testing and of all testing events throughout the development lifecycle.
Demonstrates a systematic and analytical approach to problem solving and pays close attention to detail.
Proven understanding of testing tools and standards.
Has previous experience in IT projects or Business IT projects

Job Description and Skill Set Required:

University degree or equivalent.
Minimum of 4 years of Web development experience using Java, JSF and Facelets, JUnit and Javascript.
Minimum of 1 year experience of Portal V6.15 development.
Demonstrates analytical and systematic approach to problem solving.
Communicates fluently orally and in writing and can present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Is able to plan, schedule and monitor work activities in order to meet time and quality targets.
Is able to rapidly absorb new technical information and apply it effectively.

Desirable
Financial Services Experience nice to have.
