Description: My Dublin based client currently requires a Oracle DBA to join their team to be responsible for providing specialist advice and/or support to end users on IT applications and systems.
Overview
The successful applicant will contribute to the overall success of the organisation by working effectively to design, develop, test and implement quality database solutions to support the IT systems. The IT equipment associated with is located in Dublin and Belfast and both sites must be maintained in an operational state on a highly available basis. The role is Dublin based but occasional travel to Belfast is required .
Key Responsibilities
Primarily responsible for providing specialist advice and/or support to end users on IT applications and systems within required timelines; in particular in relation to Oracle, Microsoft SQL and MySQL
First point of contact for identifying, prioritising and resolving database issues, for both production and non production environments, including dealing with database refreshes and daily tasks, backups and restores
Supporting and improving the database environments, to ensure 24x7 availability, including back-up and disaster recovery and coordinating and reviewing database security for all environments
Analyse, plan and implement upgrade projects as agreed
Apply specialist knowledge of IS applications and systems to contribute to policy, process and planning, and produce system / policy documentation as required
Manage small/medium projects/work activities or sections of larger projects and interact with stakeholders to ensure business requirements are met; for example working with the functional team and business users to support production and non-production databases.
Capable of making decisions on assigned projects within the objectives and strategy guidelines of the IS department and an ability to work outside established procedures but within a policy framework
Liaise with external agencies and suppliers as required
Provide technical guidance to more junior team members as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
Relevant degree with 4-5 years experience (including 1-2 years specialist experience in an Oracle DBA support role)
Strong proficiency in Oracle, with strong Oracle 10g & 11g background
Strong knowledge of Oracle running on Linux
Working knowledge of operating within a Windows 2008 environment, Replication and Data Guard, RMAN backup and recovery, SQL and PL/SQL coding
Strong interpersonal and communications skills
Strong troubleshooting, problem solving and work planning abilities
Ability to lead and take responsibility for small/medium projects
Demonstrated flexibility and motivational skills
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and meet deadlines.
Desirable
Oracle RAC experience
Working knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager and system monitoring

Our Financial Service client requires a Technical Support Engineer with responsibility for the day-to-day management and support of the Windows, SQL Server, IIS, Web applications and Unix environments that underpin our business applications. This role reports to the Business Application Service Support manager.
Primary Responsibilities
The primary duties for this position include (but are not limited to):-
Provision of technical support for build, configuration, release and administration of the Production, Pseudo-Live & UAT environments, including configuration of our end-to-end Integration Test rigs.
Oversee installation of application patches and upgrades on our UAT, Pseudo-Live & Production environments in accordance with the Software Development Lifecycle.
Use of fundamental technical troubleshooting skills obtained through performance of the role to define, isolate and resolve technical issues.
Document application problem information, recommendations, and resolution in a clear and concise manner. Provide technical issue escalation using appropriate methodology.
Adherence to the IT Change/Release procedures to ensure availability, security & reliability of the Production environment.
Timely reporting of monthly, quarterly and EOY statistics regarding project, business-as-usual and compliance related activity to the management team.
Contribute to our in-house knowledgebase writing quality articles to be used by Support Engineers and work peers. Support knowledge transfer through close interaction with colleagues in the department.
Promote a team environment by assisting co-workers whenever necessary to enhance the professional development of everyone within the department.
Work closely with the Business Applications Service Support manager to set realistic timelines and work estimates.
Provision of Level 1/ Level 2 support as the need arises
Academic Qualification
Qualified to degree level in computer science or related discipline.
Detailed knowledge of Windows 2003/2008 server. Ideally have experience in working within a Windows Server Administrator role.
Detailed knowledge of SQL and database structures. Ideally have experience in working in a SQL Database Support role. Database Administration and scripting experience would be an advantage.
Nice to have experience of Microsoft Sharepoint Administration or a detailed knowledge of this.
Knowledge / experience of supporting business applications operating on WebSphere, UNIX & IIS platforms.
An excellent customer service attitude and the ability to interact with people in a professional manner are required.
Must possess good problem solving and analytical skills.
Requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and use judgment in providing technical assistance.
ITIL certification would be an advantage.

The SQL DBA will work within the Enterprise Systems Team, a multi-disciplined, high performing team of 14 Infrastructure Support Engineers. Working in the areas of database, reporting and data integration technologies, the ideal candidate will have a mix of skills suited for the development, deployment and maintenance of databases. The role covers all aspects of database deployment from new applications development to database enhancement, maintenance and support.
The role of the SQL DBA is an integral one in the delivery of quality, fit for purpose business solutions developed on the Microsoft Windows/SQL Server based platform, delivered within agreed deadlines, and to the required quality standards, in order to meet the business requirements of internal customers.
Reporting through the line to the Enterprise Systems Manager the successful candidate will:
Administer the Microsoft SQL Database estate.
Process database administration tasks to include health checking , capacity planning , performance tuning , database structure changes , database reorganisation
Support analysis and design of business requirements from a technical point of view and provide input into the technical direction that best support the business requirements and overall IT architecture and strategy, in conjunction with the Application Development team
Interpret Functional Specifications to deliver best in class technical solutions
Deliver to agreed Quality standards and to the Project standards and procedures employed in the department
Participate in design and feasibility reviews; be comfortable in conducting QA reviews of the current and future installed base
Perform Production support and Oncall duties
Contribute to the planning activities including impact analysis, scoping of new projects
The Person
The ideal candidate will have:
Technical Expertise:
IT qualification preferably to degree standard or similar in a computing or science related discipline
Proven Previous experience as a Microsoft SQL DBA with experience in administrating both Standard and Enterprise SQL deployments
Sound knowledge of software engineering principles and theory
Strong knowledge of the Windows environment and strong Database troubleshooting experience
Knowledge of DBA utilities and exposure to Extract Transform and Load (ETL ) tools
Knowledge of scheduling, monitoring and reporting utilities
Knowledge of physical and virtual server sets
A natural interest in technology
