MS SQL DEVELOPER
Large Financial Services institution has a requirement for two experienced SQL Developers to join a development team supporting a range of applications and databases used by the Treasury department. A major project is currently underway to migrate the database platform used by many of these applications from Sybase to SQL Server 2012.
The successful candidate will be required to join the small team of analysts and developers taking part in this migration project in order to provide additional development capacity as well as ongoing change management and support.
Requirements profile of candidate:-
- IT related degree or equivalent experience
- 2+ years SQL Server development experience - preferably in SQL Server 2005/2008
- Experience of full database development lifecycle - systems analysis, functional & technical specifications, design, testing and implementation
- Design and implementation of robust, scalable and efficient database systems
- Query Optimization and Performance Tuning of existing applications and databases
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, ability to understand complex problems and to generate appropriate technical solutions
Desirable Skills :-
- SQL Server 2012
- Experience in Banking/Finance sector a plus
- Experience with DBA activities such as backups, data sizing and hardware requirements
- ASP.Net
- Knowledge of and/or exposure to Sybase Transact SQL or Oracle PL/SQL

Role/ Skills/ Technologies required:
• Managing approx 70-90 Production Oracle Server ranging from 50 GB to 800 GB
• Managing approx 150 Production SQL Server ranging from 20 GB to 500 GB Sql server 2000,Sqlserver 2005,Sqlserver 2008 and Sqlserver 2012.
• OLTP & OLAP environment that includes Production (24x7), QA and development databases in Oracle and Sql server.
• Experience in Data Modeling (Logical and Physical Design of Databases), Normalization and building Referential Integrity Constraints, Looks after query optimization & performance tuning by using SQL Profiler, Execution Plan, Performance Monitor and DBCC Commands and DMVs.
• Review SQL Server performance and train staff on areas for improvement in code, storage, indexes, and configuration
• Testing of new releases and features for application, O/S and Database upgrade.
• Proven experience in maintenance of SQL Server in a VLDB environment & experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems.
• Promote best practice in Governance regarding Database Management.

Description: My Dublin based client currently requires a Junior SQL Developer to join their existing team in a six month fixed term contract position.
Junior SQL Developer Key Aspects of the Role:
Working with the production manager and other team members to ensure accurate and timely production of fund factsheets and other automated marketing materials and reports. These materials will be across multiple countries, in multiple formats and languages.
Duties and responsibilities:
1. Monthly - Data checking / Imports/ bugs /fixes
2. Implementing Report Template changes
3. Ensuring relevant data interfaces are in place and modifying and building new ones
4. Implementation Changes to existing materials
5. Build New Reporting Services Reports and Templates
6. Regular liaison with IT and Marketing colleagues across Pioneer Investments’ offices in order to execute above
7. Responsible for QC over any new automated templates to ensure all are working efficiently and mirror the current offering
8. Ensure all completed output is populated to the appropriate web sites or send to the relevant recipient in an automated format.
9. Ensure other members of the project team are kept up to date with progress via regular meetings.
10. Ensure problems are resolved/escalated as soon as they occur.
Junior SQL Developer Competencies
Essential
• SQL server with very strong SQL query skills ( 1-2 years’ experience)
• Reporting: Knowledge of SQL Reporting Tools ideally SQL Reporting Services 2005/2008
• Databases: MS SQL Server, MS Access: Strong SQL Server 2005/2008 database design and development experience including the usage of DTS/SSIS packages for automated data processing and stored procedures to incorporate business logic.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a diverse team
• Experience with Microsoft applications focusing on Excel and PowerPoint

Junior SQL Developer Experience and Qualifications
Optional
• MS .Net Web Development (some experience desirable)
• A good understanding of fund management operations and mutual fund distribution- desirable
• Knowledge of Italian or any main European language would be an advantage
• Third level qualification in Computer Science or equivalent.
