Description: My Dublin based Financial Services client has an immediate requirement for an experienced SQL Server DBA. This is a critical role with responsibility for the Development, Test and Production Databases. The successful candidate will work closely with the Development and Infrastructure teams to make sure that all data is available for critical reporting and processing. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Database Management.


Applicants must have at least 5 years’ experience installing, maintaining and supporting Microsoft SQL Server 2012, 2008 R2 and 2005, and ensuring their performance, availability, integrity and security. Exposure to Oracle 10g R2 and 11g R2 database administration would be a distinct advantage.

Principal duties:

• Responsible for ensuring the availability, performance and security of the databases that support the company's systems.

• Create and maintain database users and groups, and their access to database objects.

• Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure services are operational with minimum downtime.

• Responsible for the improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollouts, upgrades and security patches.

• Maintain data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act.

• Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans.

• Ensure that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.

• Regularly check and analyse data and make appropriate suggestions with respect to the efficiency and performance of the data storage.

• Communicate regularly with the technical, applications and security staff to ensure database integrity and security.

• Responsible for the implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the development teams, e.g. creation of database objects, tables, indexes, tuning of database queries etc.

• Responsible for problem escalation to the development teams and third parties as appropriate, e.g. evaluation and execution of third-party provided DDL and DML scripts.




Qualifications, Skills & Competencies:


• Proven Microsoft SQL Server database administration experience (v2005 – v2012).

• Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 database configuration for SharePoint and Visual Studio Team Foundation Server.

• Practical experience in monitoring and tuning databases to provide a high availability service.

• Proven Transact-SQL (T-SQL) experience.

• Knowledge of Reporting Tools ideally SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).

• Knowledge of Windows PowerShell scripting and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).

• Attendance at Microsoft certified database training courses. Microsoft SQL Server certification would be a distinct advantage.

• Experience of Oracle database administration (versions 10g and 11g) in a Microsoft Windows environment would be a distinct advantage.



• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to prioritise own workload and work to exacting deadlines.

• Desire to learn about new products and keep abreast of new product developments.

• Excellent methodology in fault-finding and follow-up skills.

To manage, administer, design and develop Microsoft SQL Server Systems with a commitment to high quality standards

Key Areas of Responsibility:
Overall responsibility for all database management and administration within the company.
Maintain, design and manage the interaction between the Avaya Dialer and Customer Databases.
SQL business reporting based on both regular and ad-hoc business needs, including Data Transformation Services (DTS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Sharepoint integration.
Responsibility for database backups and methodologies, including transaction log shipping and/or other replication options.
Responsibility for database performance and tuning.
Documentation of all relevant processes/procedures.
Saturday on call I.T. Helpdesk Support, as per defined roster schedule.
Participate, support, mentor and contribute as a team member within the I.T. team on common activities.
Support scheduled weekend and after hours system releases and software upgrades.
Project participation and input as required.

Essential Requirements:
Proven track record in an SQL DBA role or equivalent, supporting SQL Server 2005 and/or 2008 including DTS, SSIS and SSRS.
Microsoft Certified Information Technology Professional (MCITP) database qualification(s) or equivalent.
Proven track record in a Windows Server 2003 and/or 2008 virtual infrastructure environment.
Transact-SQL proficiency.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills including excellent written and spoken English.
Ability to remain calm and perform under pressure.
Excellent time management and attention to detail.
Flexibility.

Desirable Requirements:
Third level computing qualification.
Proven track record working with Visual Basic, Javascript, Windows Batch File Scripting and within a VMWare environment.
Sharepoint and MS Dynamics experience.
Knowledge of Telecommunications Systems.
Proven track record working within a Financial Services Industry.

Train others on the IT application team in the use of SQL and database administration.
