Description: My Dublin based Financial Services client has an immediate requirement for an experienced SQL Server DBA. This is a critical role with responsibility for the Development, Test and Production Databases. The successful candidate will work closely with the Development and Infrastructure teams to make sure that all data is available for critical reporting and processing. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Database Management.
Applicants must have at least 5 years experience installing, maintaining and supporting Microsoft SQL Server 2012, 2008 R2 and 2005, and ensuring their performance, availability, integrity and security. Exposure to Oracle 10g R2 and 11g R2 database administration would be a distinct advantage.
Responsible for ensuring the availability, performance and security of the databases that support the company's systems.
Create and maintain database users and groups, and their access to database objects.
Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure services are operational with minimum downtime.
Responsible for the improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollouts, upgrades and security patches.
Maintain data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act.
Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans.
Ensure that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.
Regularly check and analyse data and make appropriate suggestions with respect to the efficiency and performance of the data storage.
Communicate regularly with the technical, applications and security staff to ensure database integrity and security.
Responsible for the implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the development teams, e.g. creation of database objects, tables, indexes, tuning of database queries etc.
Responsible for problem escalation to the development teams and third parties as appropriate, e.g. evaluation and execution of third-party provided DDL and DML scripts.
Qualifications, Skills & Competencies:
Proven Microsoft SQL Server database administration experience (v2005 v2012).
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 database configuration for SharePoint and Visual Studio Team Foundation Server.
Practical experience in monitoring and tuning databases to provide a high availability service.
Proven Transact-SQL (T-SQL) experience.
Knowledge of Reporting Tools ideally SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
Knowledge of Windows PowerShell scripting and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
Attendance at Microsoft certified database training courses. Microsoft SQL Server certification would be a distinct advantage.
Experience of Oracle database administration (versions 10g and 11g) in a Microsoft Windows environment would be a distinct advantage.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Ability to prioritise own workload and work to exacting deadlines.
Desire to learn about new products and keep abreast of new product developments.
Excellent methodology in fault-finding and follow-up skills.

Develop a data mart to populate data and migrate data from other data sources to SQL 2005 data warehouse and transactions processing of credit risk scoring model data using ETL SSIS and produce reports using SSRS.
Generate several detail and summary reports and sub-reports according to business requirements using Report Builder.
5+ years experience in a role developing/designing solutions using Microsoft SQL Server.
You will have experience developing reports and publishing on SQL Reporting Services.
You will have experience developing SSIS packages.
A Microsoft Certification in SQL Server would be desirable.

Primarily responsible for providing specialist advice and/or support to end users on IT applications and systems within required timelines; in particular in relation to Oracle, Microsoft SQL and MySQL
First point of contact for identifying, prioritising and resolving database issues, for both production and non production environments, including dealing with database refreshes and daily tasks, backups and restores
Supporting and improving the database environments, to ensure 24x7 availability, including back-up and disaster recovery and coordinating and reviewing database security for all environments
Analyse, plan and implement upgrade projects as agreed
Apply specialist knowledge of IS applications and systems to contribute to policy, process and planning, and produce system / policy documentation as required
Manage small/medium projects/work activities or sections of larger projects and interact with stakeholders to ensure business requirements are met; for example working with the functional team and business users to support production and non-production databases.
Capable of making decisions on assigned projects within the objectives and strategy guidelines of the IS department and an ability to work outside established procedures but within a policy framework
Liaise with external agencies and suppliers as required
Provide technical guidance to more junior team members as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Relevant degree with 4-5 years experience (including 1-2 years specialist experience in an Oracle DBA support role)
Strong proficiency in Oracle, with strong Oracle 10g & 11g background
Strong knowledge of Oracle running on Linux
Working knowledge of operating within a Windows 2008 environment, Replication and Data Guard, RMAN backup and recovery, SQL and PL/SQL coding
Strong interpersonal and communications skills
Strong troubleshooting, problem solving and work planning abilities
Ability to lead and take responsibility for small/medium projects
Demonstrated flexibility and motivational skills
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and meet deadlines.
Oracle RAC experience
Working knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager and system monitoring
