Description: My Client has a permanent role available for an Helpdesk Engineer. If you have just completed your degree and looking to start your IT career with a Leading Irish Company this role may be of interest to you.
This is a permanent position with an approximate starting salary of €25,000 per annum plus benefits. Based in Cork and you would need to drive.
• Provide a first, and single, point of contact to users of IT systems through a variety of media
• Logging of all incidents accurately, ensuring all relevant information is obtained and recorded on incident logging software
• Provide problem diagnosis, using appropriate support tools for hardware, software & in-house applications. Assign calls to second line support teams where appropriate
• Ensuring that all cases owned by the Service Desk are resolved in accordance with the agreed Service Level Agreement (SLA)
• Deliver outstanding customer service standards by answering all calls promptly, remaining courteous and professional at all times
• Ensure processes, procedures and resolutions are documented and updated regularly on the Service Desk knowledge base
• Any other duties deemed required as part of the day to day role
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
• Third level Qualification in IT or related discipline ideally to degree level
• 6 to 18 months experience of working in a Helpdesk/ Service Desk or support environment
• Excellent understanding of Desktop Operating Systems (Win XP and Win 7)
• Excellent understanding of MS Office Products
• Citrix & Microsoft Active Directory administration skills
• Ability to support and communicate with users on all levels
• Excellent Interpersonal skills
• Excellent Analytical approach to problem solving
• Self starter who uses own initiative
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team

• Manage multiple competing cross-functional projects/programs simultaneously, some on a global scale.
• Interact with engineers, technicians, project managers and senior management on a daily basis.
• Run meetings, create and maintain timelines, and keep large, diverse groups informed of progress and obstacles.
• Work with engineers to develop detailed and creative solutions to complex problems, while keeping a watchful eye on timelines and costs.
• Ensure consistency in deployed configurations and track exceptions for follow up.
• Managing the infrastructure build-out.
• Ensure the infrastructure adheres to the requirements for availability, stability, and efficiency.
• Develop and maintains infrastructure and resource cost estimates.
• Delegate, facilitate, and integrate activities; and resolve conflicts.
• Complete assigned projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.

Skills & Experience Required:
• Proven Data Centre and Infrastructure experience;
• 3+ years Project Management experience;
• Experience in commercial data center, co-location environments, and/or optical transport/network environments are a plus;
• Excellent organizational skills and project tracking abilities; experience of procurement and logistics, strong focus and attention to detail; the ability to work in a very fast-paced, hectic, and energetic environment, yet able to maintain high quality standards; project/task prioritization and schedule development.

This will be a 6 month contract but for the right person could move in to a permanent opportunity.

Provide systems administration, support and engineering of Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop infrastructure while assuring operational availability for end Users, business units and Customers within the framework of established operating procedures. Support of systems infrastructure projects and enhancements and platform upgrades.

Responsible for administering the Citrix Systems Infrastructure (servers, gateways, load balancers, virtual appliances, services and monitoring systems) so that the systems operates successfully and reliably and performs and is available within it’s agreed Service Level Agreements.

Works with departmental team(s) to formulate, schedule, and complete System improvement/enhancement projects.

Installs and configures Citrix Systems Infrastructure components (i.e. servers, gateways, load balancers, virtual appliances and services) for maximum utilization of company information and system resources.

Monitors Citrix Systems resource usage such as CPU, Disk capacity, I/O and provides monthly capacity reports on usage trends and peaks.

Provides first line support for resolving problems with Citrix Systems Infrastructure and liaises with Vendors with respect to fault analysis and escalation.

Secure the Citrix Systems & Infrastructure from unauthorized access in line with GTS Security Standards and Policies and monitors system logs for any attempted breach of the systems access controls and/or rules.

Maintains, documents and tests systems Disaster Recovery infrastructure and requirements in terms of changes, deletions and additions to new and existing systems.

Responsible for keeping up to date system documentation for the Citrix Infrastructure.

Knowledge and Experience:

3rd level IT qualification or an equivalent ICT industry
standard certification.
Citrix Certified Expert (CCE) or Professional (CCP) in
either or both Apps & Desktop or Networking.
5+ years experience supporting a Citrix Enterprise
Systems Infrastructure environment.


Supporting Citrix XenApp 6.5, XenDesktop 7,EdgeSite v5.x, Microsoft App-V, Microsoft Windows 2008/2012 Server, MS Active Directory 2008 and
Vmware ESX 5.
Experience of implementing and maintaining systems in a high availability, 24/7 technical environment.

Experience of supporting Vmware ESX Hypervisor and using related support and monitoring tools (vCentre).

Experience in supporting Citrix Netscaler Access Gateways (CAGs).
Clear understanding of application deployment techniques and procedures as it relates to Citrix products and features available.

The methods and techniques used in protecting systems and data security (information security).

Proven ability to multi-task. Sound reasoning ability together with strong problemsolving skills and ability to know when to escalate a problem before it becomes critical. Works on own initiative with minimum supervision

Sound written communication with ability to construct documentation for internal and external distribution and presentation skills.
Has proven ability in communicating effectively at all

An ability to read, analyze and interpret common business documents and understand requirements.
Strong team player; will assist and seek assistance where appropriate to deliver tasks on time.

Highly productive and flexible in approach to tasks and individuals.
Is prepared to do what it takes to keep projects on track and can give extra time commitments if required.

Key Responsibilities of this role:

• Provide 3rd level support for server and storage based issues.
• Delivery of project based work to agreed target dates.
• Involvement in hardware review/upgrade/replacement decision-making process. Installation and configuration of Servers.
• Review, development and on-going support of server backup/recovery strategy.
• Potentially provide Out of Hour support on agreed rota
• Review, development and on-going support of enterprise management solution – alter monitoring, trending and enterprise logging tools.
• Review, development and on-going support of software management solution – packaging and distribution to servers/desktops, audit management.
• Work with other IT Teams to provide best practice IT practice and implement IT solutions that meet identified business needs.

Key Requirements of this role:

• Hold a relevant IT Qualification and 5 + years’ experience in a similar role.
• Knowledge of hardware and associated technologies: MS Operating Systems, LAN/WAN Technologies, SAN storage, VMWARE, Backup management, Software deployment application, image build creation/management.
• Experience working with Service Level Agreements and maintaining processes and procedures
• Strong customer focus and problem solving abilities
• Process good communication skills and telephone manner
• Strict attention to detail and ability to finish tasks out fully to the highest standard.
• Excellent Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environments
• Work with helpdesk tools to manage workload
