Description: My Dublin based client currently requires an Application Support Engineer to join their existing team in a permanent position.
Qualification and Experience Required
A third level degree in Computer Science, or equivalent working experience
Minimum of four years experience in an application or systems support role.
Experience of front line application support and implementing fixes to existing systems
Experience of deploying software upgrades into product environments
Experience of batch monitoring and back up administration
Experience supporting applications in C#, PL SQL or SQL, Java
Experience of supporting Databases, ideally Oracle but not essential.
Has worked in financial services, utilities or equivalent.
Duties and Responsibilities
The person will be keen to develop within the role, and open to learning new disciplines and new skill sets.
Day to day support and monitoring of our business systems
Front line support to trouble shoot, diagnose and fix software issues on our business systems.
Incident management, resolution and escalation of issues on all environments both internally and with our IT partners.
Maintaining and updating the monitoring systems, running scripts and batch processes
Managing the deployment process to ensure successful deployment of new systems, software and upgrades.
Maintaining and managing test, development and production environments.
Maintaining the documentation set on all applications and systems
Diagnosing system and application software problems.
Testing of offsite backup solution
Training on upgrades to our systems and applications to teams within the business
Maintaining and updating password and access security levels for users
Working closely with the IT Manager to determine how applications can be developed and supported to meet the business needs
Interpersonal Skills
A motivated, team player, action, and results oriented, ability to work under tight deadlines
Great problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to adapt quickly, take on additional work and systems that might be outside your comfort zone
Enjoy working in environments where one is encouraged to use own initiative

Must have excellent communication skills and must be able to present diagnostic, troubleshooting steps and conclusions to a non-technical audience
Technical Skills
Experience supporting applications in PL SQL or SQL, C#, Java.
Experience of supporting Databases, ideally Oracle but not essential.
Good knowledge of Relational Databases
Strong scripting skills
Database development query skills or aptitude
Working knowledge of Windows Server environments
Understanding of internet related technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SSL;
Basic network and desktop troubleshooting
Good working knowledge of Excel and setting up ODBC connections

My Client is looking for a software engineer with 2-3 years database developmwnt skills, SQL, PL/SQL.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is interested in taking their career to the next level.
Working initially in the areas of database, reporting and data integration technologies, the ideal candidate will have a mix of skills suited for the development and maintenance of applications. Depending on the particular project, development tasks will have a mixture of business and technical deliverables. Training will be provided to the right candidate where required.
The role covers all aspects of the software development lifecycle from new applications development to system enhancement, maintenance and support.
Development Environment
The range of technologies in use presents opportunities to develop skills and knowledge. Our delivery platform is a distributed architecture comprised of the following:
A Database Layer using PL/SQL stored procedures in an enterprise Oracle database.
A Data Integration platform used to develop interfaces to integrate both internal and third party systems using an Extract-Transform-and-Load (ETL) tool. Together with scheduling, and monitoring utilities, it forms the basis for our business critical overnight batch infrastructure.
Reports implemented as a mix of Crystal, Business Objects XI, and Web Intelligence deployed on a Business Objects XI server. Data retrieval for reports is implemented using pipelined stored procedures with communications over the ODBC and OCI protocols.
The server environments run on Windows Server in a mixture of physical and virtual machines.
Distributed-object architecture with in-house developed middle layer components for business logic and front end GUI applications.
Commercial line-of-business systems and packages integrated with in-house applications, databases and reporting platforms.
The Person:
Suitable candidates will have:
A degree in a computing or science related discipline
Sound knowledge of software engineering principles and theory
A natural interest in technology
An inquisitive nature to query other team members on specific technology or business issues
High levels of dependability, flexibility, enthusiasm, supportiveness, involvement, openness and clarity
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with business clients

General Role Overview
The primary job responsibility is to analyze business and/or systems requirements specifications and develop Oracle PL/SQL code to meet those requirements. This encompasses Oracle triggers, stored procedures, package headers/bodies, and SQL*Plus reports in a number of enterprise systems.
This position is a true developer position, and will require a level of independence in analyzing any number of business requirements specifications. Based upon these specifications, provide development services to meet these specifications for our customers. This development process encompasses new development as well as existing system processes, procedures, and reports.
As a developer, a critical role will be to provide coding services as well as engage in the role of providing end user community support where and when required.
The ideal candidate will possess strong application system design skills, must be able to work independently, and possess good organizational and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
Assume role in the design, development, and support of mission critical applications
Will be responsible for programming and testing new application modules as well as modifications to existing application modules.
Design, develop, and conduct unit test plans for ensuring application code is functioning correctly
Development of design and support documentation
Responsibilities also include internal customer interaction, project estimating, application problem analysis and performance testing
Participate in peer design and code reviews.
Minimal Required Skills / Experience / Qualifications
5+ years experience with database application design
Oracle PL/SQL with 5+ years relevant experience
Strong knowledge and use of development methodologies, standards and procedures.
Designing and Developing Oracle Stored Procedures, Triggers
Understanding of and ability to apply Oracle database environment performance tuning principles
Expertise in SQL tuning of large database environments (1+ terabytes)
Experience programming PL/SQL batch environment utilizing large tables and high transaction throughput requirements.
Demonstrated experience using Oracle Collections, bulking techniques, partition utilization to increase performance.
Ability to test to requirements and document results
Ability to work in the UNIX environment
Desired Skills / Experience / Qualifications
Financial sector industry experience.
o Enterprise project development experience.
o Technical certifications in relevant areas are a plus, but not required.
