Description: Storage Engineer (EMC) - My client is looking for a EMC Storage Engineer for a 4-6 month daily rate contract.
Overview:
The role comprises of storage administration support for SAN, Backup and the Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) function.
Job Description:
The individual will be working in a storage focused team primarily responsible for storage provisioning, SAN management and systems backup provisioning for many diverse application systems and operating systems. The individual will be engaged in an EMC, Brocade, Symantec and Sun / Storage Tek environment. The individual will be involved in daily administration functions such as incident management, change management and problem resolution. This will encompass implementation of operational practices around administration, reporting and monitoring of the hardware/software in this environment. Some basic support of the ILM function will also be required in terms of the Archiving products supported by the team.
The Storage Services team provide infrastructure support to the my client’s business community, and in doing so, maintain relationships with many other IT teams in providing a high quality overall solution.
Key skills for the Storage Engineer (EMC) role:
Possess 5 years + of progressive experience in computer operations, data processing, management information systems, or systems administration.
•
Possess 3 years + experience of working in complex SAN environments with multiple Unix/Windows hosts and DMX / Clariion/Centera/EVA arrays.
•
Familiarity with system backup strategies utilizing tape or magnetic disk technologies.
•
Demonstrate excellent judgment skills in order to make successful decisions in dealing with sometimes complex situations.
•
Demonstrate well developed troubleshooting skills for incident & problem management.
•
Provide technical leadership and influencing by clearly and effectively communicating with peers and customers.
•
Demonstrate strong initiative and willingness to achieve results through change.
•
Ability to develop and manage system documentation including standard operating procedures, and routine status reports; and script development, testing and implementation.
•
Have an ability to support multiple/concurrent projects and initiatives.
• Written and oral communication skills should be to a high standard.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years, working in an IT support environment.
Academic Qualification:
Preference for graduate qualifications.
Skill Set:
Familiarity with various high availability and Disaster Recovery techniques. Assist in processes involving change management, vendor management, problem escalation and project management.

Ability to provide 7x 24x365 support using mobile phone, and remote access tools.
•
Ability to provide training to less experienced staff.
•
Network: TCP/IP, troubleshooting. Cluster technology awareness.

NetBackup Enterprise Server 7.x

The successful candidate should have the following experience:
Essential Functions
As a Storage Engineer the responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Manage & Support an EMC Celerra/Clariion & Brocade based Enterprise Storage Infrastructure & associated systems including VMWare/ Linux / Windows Servers, CommVault Simpana Software and various other Applications eg EMC PowerPath etc.
• Day-to-day operations of IT storage functions including allocating storage to Linux / Windows Servers, Managing the Network File Systems (NFS), CIFS and Storage Area Network (SAN) Environments, Administering Brocade Fibre Channel (FC) Switch Fabrics, PowerPath Configuration and Data Replication.
• Manage Storage related activities such as Performance Monitoring, Identifying and Resolving Performance related issues, Identifying and driving efficiency initiatives, Disk Consumption, Capacity Planning, FC Cabling, FC Zoning.
• Be Forward-thinking on future direction for the Storage Environment and investigate/suggest new technologies as they evolve to drive efficiency
• Create and Maintain detailed documentation to describe the Storage Operations, Topology & Configuration.
• Manage & Support Backup/Restore Operations with CommVault Simpana software and have familiarity with Backup technologies such as D2D2T and DeDuplication.
• Manage internal relationships with departmental managers and peers & also manage the external vendor relationships.
Required/Preferred Qualifications
B.S. in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
Required
• Detailed Operational knowledge of EMC Storage Arrays.
• Detailed knowledge of SAN, NAS, CIFS, NFS.
• 7+ years supporting complex and fast changing large Storage Environments.
• Strong problem solving experience required.
• Must demonstrate strong operating system skills in NT and UNIX/Linux.
• Must be comfortable at Unix Shell/Perl scripting.
• Good communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and able to work in a team and also independently.
• Good understanding of networking.
