Position: Technology Engineer Division: Location: Charlotte, NC / Cork, Ireland Job Status: Full-time permanent


I. POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Engineering team members are responsible for providing Solution Designs and facilitating project execution. They are subject matter experts in their respective technical areas and also have the overall understanding of how different technical components interact (applications, network, backups, etc.).
Although this discipline will operate out of O&S, actively engaging the broader the IT organization will be critical to the team’s success. Success will be determined by (1) how effectively we capture and develop Solution Designs that will be used to solve business problems and (2) how effectively we introduce new technology into my client that meets operational requirements.
The successful candidate will be customer centric; service metrics driven; possess a firm understanding of the technologies under management; and be able to elevate and develop her team members. Proven ability to develop a methodology that is deterministicly produce quality, consistent and repeatable deliverables will be key to the success.

Current technologies are:
- Operating Systems: Solaris, Linux and Windows Server
- Database: Oracle, MS SQL
- Middleware: WebSphere Applicaton Server, WebLogic, JBOSS, Tomcat and MQ Business consulting, ITIL, Project Management and Private Cloud experience is a plus.

II. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONS:
This position reports to the lead on the Engineering Transition Planning Manager and can be based out of the Charlotte, NC or Cork, Ireland office. This person will interact with various technical teams & business units.

III. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Propose solution designs for IT projects
• Provide technical documentation for new/updated environments
• Evaluation of Product releases and updates
• Evaluation and Introduction of Operational tools
• Proactively look for opportunities to improve our existing infrastructure
• Various levels of project support, occasionally will act as the effective project manager
• Liaise with architecture team on new technologies
• Liaise with business units on new projects
• Liaise with Operations teams on projects & support
• Handover of new technologies to respective Operations team
• Occasionally will provide level 3 support
• Reviews of technical documents
• Prepare status reports and key metrics as required


IV. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
• Excellent problem solving skills
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Should have 7+ years experience with Database Administration (Oracle or SQL server) OR WebSphere Administration OR VMware administration OR Unix Administration.
• Experience with installation, configuration, and administration of the relevant technology
• Should have an understanding of ITIL practices & other standard IT practices/procedures
• Certification in any relevant technologies is a plus
• Must be self motivated & possess strong project management skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment

I. POSITION DESCRIPTION:
As a Systems Administrator - Unix, you would help lead the Unix System Administration team which provides 24x7 production support for mission critical environments accessed worldwide.

II. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONS:
This position is part of the Information Technology team and reports to Systems Administration Lead / Manager.

III. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Address day-to-day server issues in a production environment that requires quick turnaround.
• Plan, prepare and complete Solaris and Linux OS patching.
• Perform essential UNIX administration tasks – server builds, patching, user administration, cluster management, software installations, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
• Provide 24x7 operations support. Promptly respond to telephone calls, voice-mail and e-mail.
• Resolve and document system errors and performance issues.
• Perform root cause analysis of critical errors and outages.
• Identification and resolution of customer issues
• Accept responsibility and personal accountability

IV. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
• Undergraduate degree in computing or computing equivalent or technical-related area together with equivalent working experience
• 3 - 5 years of relevant IT experience.
• Strong knowledge of Solaris OS and RedHat Linux administration and patching practices
• Candidate must possess good troubleshooting skills and should be able to identify and quickly resolve issues caused by OS patching and changes
• Good knowledge of clustering technologies, preferable Sun Cluster
• ZFS administration
• Solaris volume manager and Logical Volume Manager
• Strong scripting experience (Perl, Python, Shell)
• Must know how to build Solaris packages and Linux RPMs
• Experience with Nagios, Graphite, Puppet or similar tools is a plus
• Take personal ownership (going beyond assigned tasks to make a project better, identify and report issues, demonstrate strong concern for clients and initiatives).
• Demonstrate strategic thinking.
• Demonstrate effective oral and written communication with customers IT team members including managers and peers.
• Must have production support experience and must have worked in 24x7 support environments.
• Must be able to meet deadlines and changing priorities. Must be able to work in high-pressure environment, sometimes independently and sometimes as part of a project team.
• Perform other technical duties as assigned
