Description: My Dublin based Financial Services client has an immediate requirement for an experienced SQL Server DBA. This is a critical role with responsibility for the Development, Test and Production Databases. The successful candidate will work closely with the Development and Infrastructure teams to make sure that all data is available for critical reporting and processing. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Database Management.


Applicants must have at least 5 years’ experience installing, maintaining and supporting Microsoft SQL Server 2012, 2008 R2 and 2005, and ensuring their performance, availability, integrity and security. Exposure to Oracle 10g R2 and 11g R2 database administration would be a distinct advantage.

Principal duties:

• Responsible for ensuring the availability, performance and security of the databases that support the company's systems.

• Create and maintain database users and groups, and their access to database objects.

• Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure services are operational with minimum downtime.

• Responsible for the improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollouts, upgrades and security patches.

• Maintain data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act.

• Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans.

• Ensure that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.

• Regularly check and analyse data and make appropriate suggestions with respect to the efficiency and performance of the data storage.

• Communicate regularly with the technical, applications and security staff to ensure database integrity and security.

• Responsible for the implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the development teams, e.g. creation of database objects, tables, indexes, tuning of database queries etc.

• Responsible for problem escalation to the development teams and third parties as appropriate, e.g. evaluation and execution of third-party provided DDL and DML scripts.




Qualifications, Skills & Competencies:


• Proven Microsoft SQL Server database administration experience (v2005 – v2012).

• Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 database configuration for SharePoint and Visual Studio Team Foundation Server.

• Practical experience in monitoring and tuning databases to provide a high availability service.

• Proven Transact-SQL (T-SQL) experience.

• Knowledge of Reporting Tools ideally SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).

• Knowledge of Windows PowerShell scripting and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).

• Attendance at Microsoft certified database training courses. Microsoft SQL Server certification would be a distinct advantage.

• Experience of Oracle database administration (versions 10g and 11g) in a Microsoft Windows environment would be a distinct advantage.



• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to prioritise own workload and work to exacting deadlines.

• Desire to learn about new products and keep abreast of new product developments.

• Excellent methodology in fault-finding and follow-up skills.

Description: Excellent opportunity for a Sql Server Data Lead to join a team based in Dublin Southside. The role will be working for a new exciting start up company that already has 90,000 customers signed up to use their sytsems.
The Role
We are growing fast and require an experienced Senior Data Lead to extract the best value from our expanding database. With your help, the business seeks to leverage this complex dataset so that all aspects of the operation are understood and shaped.
Key Responsibilities
• Establish a new data warehouse where all reporting and BI efforts will be focussed.
• Lead on data integrity project linking in house MS-SQL database with external databases.
• Work with development team including development manager, senior data person (this role), junior data person, and developers.
• Communicate proactively with stakeholders
• Establish Stored Procedure library for all common queries.
• Liase with development manager on verifying all customer lifecycles.
• Develop a quality testing strategy for all reports generated.
• Create and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers and views
• Coordinate activities with development teams
• Perform analysis, design and programming in the development reporting and MIS using SSRS, Crystal and SQL Server for all departments.
• Fill requests for data from a variety of departments, as well as build long-term processes to automate future reporting needs.
Desired Skills & Experience
• 6 years working with T-SQL
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Very strong technical foundation and the ability to collaborate well with others
• Strong attention to detail
• Well organized, with a strong desire to document accurately
• BSc in Computer Science or a related field
• BI experience an advantage
• iDashboards experience an advantage
