Overview:
My client is looking for an Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) who will play a major role in managing and supporting IT environments. With ongoing business and market changes, My client’s IT systems and environments are constantly changing, with large scale integration of existing systems coupled with numerous projects adopting new Oracle technologies and modules.
Reporting to the IT Technical Manager, the Oracle DBA has responsibility for supporting and maintaining a number of Oracle systems and some non Oracle Systems, ensuring the successful delivery of key business deliverables while actively enhancing the efficiency of these systems.
Working alongside a team of skilled technical resources, comprising analysts, developers, release managers and key support partners this role will also provide technical support to operations. The right candidate would thrive working in a dynamic, fast paced environment, with cutting edge technology in a ‘continuous learning’ work place. Ideally, a solution oriented self starter looking to grow and develop and to make their mark as part of my client’s IT team.
Job Description:
Main duties and responsibilities
• Administration of IT database systems and related environments.
• Perform and provide strategic leadership and knowledge on database performance tuning, backup and recovery, and high availability concepts
• Design, implement, and maintain automation of ongoing administration and maintenance tasks
• Implement database and application patches, new releases, including major upgrades to various Oracle Applications.
• Work with analysts and business teams on major new projects and assist on the technical design and implementation of new/enhanced Oracle features available in the industry
• Maintain development, production and multiple testing environments (database and application)
• Capacity planning, monitoring, auditing, database/application performance optimization
• Liaison with external resource/service providers to determine best practice in the industry
• Contributing to the preparation, enhancements and maintenance of systems development standards and guidelines as well as the maintenance of environment change logs
• Adherence to IT development procedures and standards including
• Database Contingency Planning and Implementation
• Corporate database licensing and compliance
• Other duties may also be assigned from time to time
Qualifications/Requirements
• 5 years experience of Oracle databases 9i, 10g and 11g
• 2 years experience Oracle application servers 9i and 10g
• 2 years Oracle RAC experience.
• UNIX administration skills or excellent understanding of midrange server architectures.
• At least 2 years ‘hands on’ relevant experience in a customer facing role supporting a large customer care and billing system.
• Suitable third level qualification in computer science or related field
• Enthusiastic self starter with a proactive approach to problem solving and systems development
• Strong ability to work to project deadlines and project plans
• Knowledge of industry-standard methodologies, tools and environments
Skill Set:
• 5 years experience of Oracle databases 9i, 10g and 11g

The following are the main responsibilities of the role:
•Providing support for the Suite of packages. Logging the issues raised by clients, understanding the problems and providing a solution where possible. This may be achieved by training, upgrade to latest software, workaround or replication of problem which can then be scheduled for a software fix.
•Liaise with team members within the department and other departments to ensure that the issue is resolved. Good follow through required.
•Liaise with the client to ensure that the client is up to date with the progress of the inquiry at all times, be customer focused.
•Ensure that the Customer Services System is kept up to date in terms of actions taken on issues and also to ensure that it accurately reflects customer information.
•Ensure that Analyst keeps up to date with all new releases and features. Analysts are expected to carry out internal upgrades for their own test environment
•Ensure that Service Level Agreements are met and achieved
•Ensure that the department objectives are met.
•Raising of Software Requests and Product Improvement Request as required

The DBA team currently consists of 3 senior DBAs and has a requirement for an Oracle DBA who will be expected to provide basic DBA support initially to our development, test and production environments. The successful candidate will be mentored by his/her fellow Senior DBAs and will also be given onsite and offsite Database and infrastructure training with the expectation of developing the DBA into a Senior DBA. It is important that the successful candidate is enthusiastic about maturing into a Senior DBA role.
Experience:
Minimum experience 4-5 years.
Requirements:
•At least 4 years experience working with Oracle 10G and 11G on a UNIX or Linux platform in a support role.
•At least 4 years working with the Oracle RMAN tool, using it for backup, restores and refreshing data from a production environment to a lower environment.
•At least 4 years experience serving in a production support role including a 24x7 on-call rotation.
•At least 3 years experience in SQL Performance Tuning.
•Good understanding of PL/SQL.
•Good knowledge of partitioning/sub-partitioning.
•The candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Ability to work quickly in fast-paced environment and under pressure.
•The candidate will be capable of working independently and can self assign work to be productive.
Desired:
•2-3 years experience writing UNIX shell scripts in support of the Oracle environment.
•2-3 years experience supporting Oracle upgrade and patching.
•Experience supporting and implementing Oracle Dataguard.
