Description: IT Server Support Engineer - 2nd/ 3rd level
Job Summary
Provide High-Level 2nd/3rd Level Support for the server and storage infrastructure for a top financial services company. The role entails taking a leading role in troubleshooting and supporting operating systems and applications in a corporate IT environment. The candidate will work as part of a team to provide comprehensive technical support to customers. It will be the responsibility of the server support resource to take a proactive role in planning the roadmap for the server and storage environment.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
• Provide 2nd/3rd level support for server and storage based issues, in accordance with target SLAs.
• Responsible for in-country servers and storage infrastructure.
• Responsible for ensuring regional support teams manage hardware and OS for instances located in our client's strategic Datacenters.
• Delivery of project based work to agreed target dates.
• Ensure relevant vulnerability and security patches are applied to server and storage environment in a timely manner.
• Manage relationship between our client and Server/Storage related vendors.
• Track support and maintenance agreements for areas of responsibility.
• Involvement in hardware review/upgrade/replacement decision-making process. Installation and configuration of Servers.
• Review, development and on-going support of server backup/recovery strategy.
• Potentially provide Out of Hour support on agreed rota.
• Review, development and on-going support of enterprise management solution – alter monitoring, trending and enterprise logging tools.
• Review, development and on-going support of software management solution – packaging and distribution to servers/desktops, audit management.
• Work with other IT Teams, both locally and regionally, to provide best practice IT practice and implement IT solutions that meet identified business needs.
• Ensure adherence to all our client's processes and ensure periodic reviews of Server/Storage related documentation.
• Participate in internal and regulator audit reviews when necessary.
• Support adhoc projects.
Personal Specification
Qualifications
• Degree in IT or equivalent experience
Experience & Knowledge
• 5 + years experience in a similar role.
• Knowledge of hardware and associated technologies:
MS Operating Systems, LAN/WAN Technologies, SAN storage, VMWARE, NetApp Storage, Tivoli Backup management, Software deployment application, image build creation/management.
• Knowledge of working with SCCM
• Experience working with Service Level Agreements and maintaining processes and procedures
• Microsoft Certification in Server 2008/2012
• VMWARE certification
• NetApp certification
• SAN storage certification
• Experience with Server, Network Technologies and Protocols

Description: My Dublin based client is currently looking for an experienced Windows/VMware Support Specialist to join their expanding team in a permanent role.
This role will support the day-to-day operation of Our Client’s server hosting environment and supporting technologies. Our Client’s x86 server environment is built on Dell Server platforms, and leverages VMware’s virtualisation technologies to deliver a Windows server hosting service for corporate applications. Supporting technologies include Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, WINS etc.
The role will primarily support business-as-usual server, directory, and virtualisation operations.
The role will also support migration of applications within and between Our Client’s data centres, and the migration of virtual servers from old to new server hardware.
The role will ordinarily report to the Server Team Leader, within IT Service Delivery but may occasionally report the Technical Lead of the data centre Migration Project, within Our Client’s IT Project Delivery Organisation.

Roles and Responsibilities.
1. Selection and procurement of server hardware systems
2. Management and maintenance of server systems in Our Client data centres and plants
3. Installation and configuration of operating system images.
4. Management of server virtualisation infrastructure
5. Management and maintenance of directory services
6. Troubleshooting of performance issues on servers
7. Patching and upgrading of Operating System software
8. To assist in auditing and necessary reporting, as required.
9. Respond to and fix calls escalated within OLA / SLA.
10. Creation and maintenance of documentation, as necessary.
11. Assisting in the migration of servers to new infrastructure.
12. Support the planning and execution of virtual application migrations
13. Support the planning and execution of physical server moves
14. Support the migration of virtual servers to new hardware
15. Troubleshoot server migration issues


Skills Required.
Technical skills (Essential).
• Excellent Knowledge of Windows Server (2008 R2 & 2012 R2
• Excellent Knowledge of Active Directory 2008 R2 (incl. Wins, DNS, DHCP)
• Excellent Knowledge of VMware (ESXi 6.1), SRM
• Good knowledge of Scripting, preferably PowerShell
• Solid experience of troubleshooting in a Windows/VMware environment
• Knowledge of Dell Servers (tower, rack & VRTX), Open Manage, IT Assistant;
• Knowledge of Microsoft SCCM (2007, 2012).
• Experience of Server Performance Monitoring
• In-depth knowledge of Infrastructure Hardware and Software Technologies
• Excellent knowledge of Infrastructure Hardware and Software best practices

Technical skills (Desirable).
• Microsoft SCOM
• Redhat Enterprise Linux
• IP Switching & Routing
• Enterprise Server Alerting & Monitoring
