Description: My Dublin based client currently requires a Systems Administrator to work as part of their team to support my clients portfolio of networks including proactive network management, automated provisioning system, managed Internet access, web hosting, blogs, directory services, content filtering and associated security services.
The successful candidate will undertake the following:
Administration of Linux servers, virtual machines, provisioning systems;
Provide server management and network support for internal and external customers;
Proactively ensure networks, server and environmental infrastructure are available and secure;
RADIUS & LDAP administration and configuration;
Administration of DNS, SQL databases and web-hosting systems;
Troubleshoot and evaluate provider connectivity issues.
Minimum of three (3) years industry experience, at least two (2) of which working in a similar role;
Experience in supporting Internet, E-mail and Web technologies;
Proven expertise implementing Internet services.
Experience working with an ISP, providing network and server management support for internal and external customers.
Skills & Aptitudes:
Excellent knowledge of Operating System software and its administration;
Thorough knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP networking;
Ability to logically troubleshoot and evaluate server and network connectivity issues.
Excellent knowledge and experience of UNIX/Linux OS (preferably Ubuntu);
High Proficiency in scripting (e.g. Shell, Perl, PHP, Python, etc.);
Good understanding of Internet protocols and infrastructure (Apache, DNS, HTTP, TCP/IP, SMTP, SNMP etc.);
Experience with directory services (e.g. OpenLDAP);
Experience of Web Single-Sign-On or web authentication systems;
Experience with SQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL);
Experience with system and network monitoring tools (e.g. Nagios, SmokePing, Cacti, Netflow);
Experience with network equipment, network monitoring systems and trouble ticketing systems;
Experience at proactively ensuring networks, server and environmental infrastructure are available and secure;
Experience with ISP provisioning systems and version control systems e.g. Subversion;
Experience with automated configuration management systems (e.g. Puppet, Chef etc.);
Good knowledge of network equipment, and the ability to troubleshoot network problems;
Knowledge of routing and switching technologies (OSPF, BGP, VLANs, VRRP).

Background On Role
As a Senior Systems Administrator, you will be responsible for designing, developing and introducing of state of the art network services. You will work with our network operations team to ensure the best practices in system administration and security are implemented in our complex, high performance network and data centres. Creativity and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues, clients and industry partners are essential in the approach to your day to day activities, as well as a passion for detail.
Your experience in systems administration, storage technologies and familiarity with network equipment and technologies will ensure that you can work with our service and network development experts to design next generation storage and virtualisation technologies, and have the vision to turn them into robust client facing services.
You will work in a team of systems and network experts, who have created my clients substantial portfolio of services. With them, you will be involved in data centre development, service and network deployment, new service initiation and existing service troubleshooting at a high level.
The successful candidate will undertake the following:
Building resilient internet services;
Designing scaleable high speed / high availability data storage and compute environments;
Driving adoption of the clients storage and virtualisation services;
Working with clients to research requirements for new services;
Designing service provisioning tools;
Managing the platforms which deliver the clients suite of services;
Participation in research projects with clients and peers.
Minimum three years experience as a Linux, Unix or Unix-like Systems Administrator, ideally in an internet service business, providing server and network management support for internal and external customers;
Experience with system administration of WAN and LAN storage attached network technology;
In depth knowledge storage and virtualisation systems administration.
Experience designing and/or operating cloud management platforms;
Working with operations teams to deliver services to end users;
Experience with, and research of the novel storage and compute virtualisation software/services.
Skills & Aptitudes:
Expert system administration & technical analysis skills;
Experience building and managing virtual server environments;
Very familiar with networking technology;
Expert with internet service architectures;
Expert with storage fabric management.
Expert with Linux/Unix system administration tools, including:
o Comprehensive knowledge of modern Linux OSes - preferably Ubuntu or Debian;
o Expert with scripting tools, eg: bash, Perl, awk, sed, etc.
Experience using hypervisors and cloud management platforms, e.g. one or more of:
o VMware, KVM, XEN;
o OpenStack, VMware, OpenNebula, CloudStack, vCloud, etc.
Expertise with Internet services, including:
o DNS, HTTP;
o Thorough understanding of internet networking (TCP/IP) and technologies for deploying highly resilient services.
Familiar with networking technologies, including:
o Resilient high speed network architecture design and implementation;
o Switching technologies.
Familiar with system monitoring software (e.g. one or more of cacti, MRTG, Smokeping, Icinga, Nagios, rancid);
System profiling tools;
Router and switch system hardware architecture.
Proven ability to work as part of a team and as an individual;
Friendly, collaborative approach;
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Solid experience with the Magento Platform and CMS platforms
Hands-on experience with server-side scripting (PHP)
Familiarity with the Google Maps API

Responsible for compliance with Group standards for all applications and Infrastructure
Proactively identify and propose infrastructure improvements

Development of business reports for Financial Applications
Liaise with Group IS and third party vendors to ensure appropriate service levels
Logging of Incidents in the ICT Helpdesk System

The candidate is expected to be proficient in a number of technologies commonly used in the
enterprise environment including:
Microsoft Windows XP/7 and Office 2003/2010
